For tree service owners
How do I ask past customers for referrals as a tree service?
Short answer
Ask in person right after a job goes well, then send one short thank-you message later. Keep it simple, and check your state's rules before you offer any reward.

The longer answer
Most happy customers are glad to refer you but rarely think to do it. When you hand over the invoice and the customer is pleased, say something like, "If a neighbor needs tree work, we would appreciate the call."
Later, send one friendly message that thanks them and makes sharing easy, for example a text with your number they can forward. Do not nag.
A small thank-you gift for a referral is common, but rules on rewards and incentives can differ by state, so check before you offer one. Keep track of who sends you work so you can thank them properly.
