The tree care calendar, month by month
What homeowners should check, what tree crews are busy with, and what a tree service company should promote, for every month of the year.
Pick a month. Each page splits the US into seven regions, so a Florida task and a Minnesota task are not mixed up. General guidance: local weather moves things by weeks.

Questions
What is the best month to prune most trees?
For many deciduous trees, late winter while the tree is dormant is a common choice: you can see the branch structure and there are fewer active pests. There are exceptions. Where oak wilt is a concern, many extension services advise avoiding oak pruning in spring and early summer, and spring-flowering trees are often pruned right after they bloom. Check your local extension service for your species.
When is the best time to plant a tree?
In most of the US, fall and early spring are the usual planting windows, because cooler weather and steady moisture help roots settle. In the hot desert Southwest, fall and winter planting is common so trees avoid summer heat in their first months. Water new trees through their first growing seasons.
Why does the calendar split the US into seven regions?
A March task in Florida can be a May task in Minnesota. Seven broad regions keep the lists useful without pretending to be exact. If you live near a region edge or at high elevation, read the neighbor region too and adjust by a few weeks.
Is this calendar for homeowners or for tree companies?
Both. Each month has a homeowner list (what to check and when to call a pro) and a crew list (what tree crews are typically busy with). Each month also has a marketing to-do list written for tree service owners.
How can a tree service company use this calendar?
Use the crew list to plan staffing and equipment, and the marketing list to plan what you promote a few weeks before demand arrives. Our free promo calendar and seasonal demand calendar tools turn this into a plan for your own area.
When is storm season for tree companies?
It depends on the region. The Atlantic hurricane season runs June 1 to November 30. Spring and early summer bring most severe thunderstorms and tornadoes in the middle of the country, and winter ice storms hit the North and parts of the South. Each month page has a one-line storm note for that month.
Can I treat the dates on this calendar as exact?
No. They are general guidance based on common seasonal patterns. A warm spring, a drought or a late frost can move tasks by weeks. For pests and diseases, follow your state extension service or department of agriculture, which publish local timing.
Does Lirevon do tree work?
No. Lirevon is a remote marketing team that works US hours for tree service companies. We set up missed-call text-back, lead follow-up, booking and review requests. Homeowners should hire a local, insured tree professional and get two or three written quotes.
