How we build and test our free tools

We have 71 free tools for tree service owners: calculators, planners and script builders. Before you trust a number from one, you should know how it was made. Here is the whole process.

By Umair Nawaz, Lirevon. Last reviewed: October 2026.

How a tool is built

Start from a job you actually do

Each tool answers one question a tree company owner has: what to charge for a removal, what missed calls may cost, how many reviews you need. If it does not save you time on a real task, we do not build it.

Write the formula in plain words first

Before any code, we write the math as a sentence, for example "jobs lost = missed calls x share who do not leave a voicemail x your close rate". That sentence is shown on the tool page so you can check it yourself.

Use your numbers, not ours

Inputs are labelled "your number" or "starting point, change it". A default is only there so the tool shows something on first load. It is not an industry average and it is not a promise.

Use only fixed numbers we can source

The only fixed numbers built in are ones with a named source (such as the Invoca missed-call figures), our own October 2026 market check, our published prices, or federal facts such as the 7.65% employer share of FICA.

What we check before it goes live

Math checked by hand

We work at least one example through on paper or in a spreadsheet and compare it with what the tool shows. We also try zero, very large numbers and empty fields to make sure the tool does not break or show nonsense.

Results labelled as estimates

Every result says it is an estimate based on the numbers you entered. A tool cannot see your trees, your crew or your market, so it cannot give you a quote.

Works on a phone

Most owners use these tools on a phone. We check that every input has a label, the page does not scroll sideways, the text is easy to read and the result is visible without hunting for it.

Works with a keyboard

Inputs and buttons can be reached with the Tab key, and results are written as text, not only as a picture or color.

Honest wording

The tool text goes through the same checks as our guides. See the editorial policy for the rules.

The writing on each tool page follows our editorial policy.

Your numbers stay with you

  • The math runs in your browser. The numbers you type are not sent to us or to anyone else.
  • Some tools remember your last inputs on your own device (in your browser's local storage) so you do not have to type them again. You can clear them by clearing your browser data for this site.
  • Our first-party visitor counter records that a tool was used on a page, so we know which tools are worth improving. It does not record what you typed. It skips visitors who have Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control turned on.
  • Many tools have a print button so you can keep a copy on paper or as a PDF.

More detail is in our privacy policy.

An example: the missed-call calculator

The missed-call calculator asks for four numbers: your calls per week, the share you miss, your average job and your close rate. The share you miss starts at 27%, the Invoca figure for home-service businesses, and you should change it to your own.

In plain words: missed calls a month = calls a week x 4.33 x the share you miss. Callers lost = missed calls x 97%, because under 3% leave a voicemail. Jobs lost = callers lost x your close rate. The yearly figure = jobs lost x your average job x 12. You can check every step with a phone calculator, and the result is labelled an estimate.

Common questions

Do your tools send my numbers anywhere?

No. The math runs in your browser and the numbers you type are not sent to us. Our visitor counter only records that a tool was used on a page, not what you typed.

Why does a tool remember what I typed last time?

Some tools save your last inputs in your own browser so you can pick up where you left off. That copy stays on your device. Clear your browser data for this site to remove it.

Are the default numbers industry averages?

No. They are starting points so the tool shows a result on first load. Change them to your own numbers. Where we use a fixed figure, the page names the source.

Can I use a tool result as a quote for a customer?

Treat it as a planning estimate, not a quote. A real quote needs a look at the tree, the site and your own costs.

How do you check the math?

We write the formula in plain words, work an example by hand, and compare it with the tool. We also try empty fields, zero and very large numbers to make sure the tool behaves.

Do I need to sign up or pay to use the tools?

No. The tools are free and work without an account. They are part of how we show tree companies what we know.

What if I think a tool is wrong?

Email hello@lirevon.com with the tool link, the numbers you entered and what you expected. We will check it and fix it if it is wrong.

Can I embed or share a tool?

Yes. Tool pages have a bar with print, share, cite and embed options. Please link back to the tool when you quote a result.

See all free tools, or report an error in one.

Want us to run the numbers with you?

We will look at your calls and Google listing for free. Get a free audit, see the services or check the pricing.
