For homeowners
Should I remove a tree before hurricane or storm season?
Short answer
Only if the tree is dead, decayed, leaning or otherwise unsafe. Healthy trees often stand better than people expect. A certified arborist can check structure and suggest pruning or removal well before storm season, when crews may be less rushed.

The longer answer
Many people worry before storm season. Removing a healthy tree is a big, permanent step. A better plan is an inspection by a certified arborist.
The pro looks for dead wood, decay, cracks, weak unions, root problems and branches over the house. Often the answer is selective pruning or, for some trees, cabling. If a tree is in poor shape and could hit your home, removal ahead of time can be wiser than waiting.
Scheduling early has another benefit: crews are often less busy than they are after a storm, and you have time to collect two or three written quotes.
