For homeowners

What are the red flags when hiring a tree service?

Short answer

Common red flags are no written quote, no proof of insurance, pressure to decide today, uninvited door-knocking after a storm, large cash payments up front, and vague answers about who does the climbing. If you see them, find another company.

The longer answer

Most tree companies are honest, but a few give the trade a bad name. Knowing the warning signs helps you avoid trouble.

Be careful with a company that will not put anything in writing, or that names a price from the truck without looking at the tree. Be careful with high-pressure talk such as "this price is only good today."

Be careful with companies that cannot show insurance, ask for a large payment in cash before any work, or will not give any references. This is general information, not legal advice. Be careful with crews that show up uninvited after a storm and offer to "help you out."

Notice how they talk about safety. A crew that jokes about dropping limbs near your roof or working close to wires without a plan is not one you want in your yard.

If something feels off, trust that feeling. There are plenty of companies that will do the job the right way.

Plain guides for homeowners

Safety first: stay away from downed power lines and call the utility; call 911 if anyone is in danger. Lirevon does not do tree work. Find local pros on Google Maps and read their reviews, then get two or three written quotes.
