For homeowners

What should I ask a tree service the day before the crew shows up?

Short answer

Ask who is in charge on site, when the crew will arrive, how they will protect your roof, lawn and driveway, where the trucks and chipper will park, and how payment works. A short call now prevents most day-of surprises.

The longer answer

A quick call a day or two before the job saves trouble. Start with timing. What arrival window should you expect, and who will call if the crew is delayed?

Ask about the plan. Who is the crew leader, and is it the person you met at the estimate? Will they climb, use a bucket truck or bring a crane? Where will they park, and will the chipper block a neighbor's driveway?

Ask how they protect your property. What do they put down to guard the lawn, patio or driveway? If you have a sprinkler system or buried lines, remind them and mark the spots.

Confirm the practical things. Where should the wood and chips go? Are they hauled away or left? When is payment due and how? Ask them to text before arrival so you can move cars.

Write the answers down in case someone else is home on the day. Stay inside and keep kids and pets away from the work area once the crew starts.
