What is Inland marine insurance?
Short answer
Inland marine insurance covers movable equipment, such as chippers, stump grinders and tools, while they are at job sites or in transit.
Inland marine insurance, explained for tree service owners
Chippers, stump grinders, saws and climbing gear are expensive, and they move from site to site. Inland marine, often sold as an equipment floater, can cover theft, fire or damage to this gear, depending on the policy. A truck policy may not cover a chipper left on a trailer overnight. Keep a list of serial numbers and photos of each machine, because insurers ask for proof. This is a short explanation, not insurance advice. Ask your agent what is covered when equipment is borrowed or rented.
