Text-back vs answering service

By Umair Nawaz, founder of Lirevon Updated How we check facts

A missed-call text-back sends an automatic text to a caller you did not answer. A live answering service has a person pick up the phone for you, 24 hours a day or in set hours, and pass on a message. Both aim to stop a lost call from becoming a lost job. They work in different ways.

We sell one of these options, so read this with that in mind. We try to be fair. Costs are rough ranges, not quotes.

QuestionMissed-call text-backLive answering service
Typical cost Part of a system. Lirevon Core is $497 a month plus setup. Typically roughly $100 to $500 a month or more, often priced per minute or per call. Get a quote from each provider.
Speed About 30 seconds after the missed call. The call is answered right away, if the service picks up fast.
Hours covered Every hour, because it is automatic. Depends on the plan. Many cover 24 hours, some only office hours.
Who talks to the caller Nobody. The caller reads and replies by text. A real person, who may not know tree work.
What it cannot do Cannot talk. Some callers will not read a text. Usually cannot book your calendar or follow up by text unless you pay for extra. Staff may not know your prices or crew.

Who each option suits

Text-back suits you if

You are fine with a text conversation, your crew misses calls while working, and you want booking and follow-up in the same system.

An answering service suits you if

Your callers expect a voice, for example storm and emergency calls, and you want a human to take details at any hour.

Many owners use both. A text-back catches every missed call cheaply. A live service can cover the emergency line. Lirevon also includes an AI receptionist that answers by voice, see the AI receptionist comparison.

Questions people ask

Is a text-back better than an answering service?

Neither is better for everyone. A text-back is cheaper and automatic and also books and follows up. A live service gives the caller a human voice. The right choice depends on your callers.

Will callers reply to a text?

Many do, because they were already looking for a quick answer. Some prefer to talk and will call the next company. That is why a voice option is useful for emergency work.

Can I use both?

Yes. Some owners keep a live service for after-hours emergencies and use text-back for everything missed during the day.

Do you offer a live answering service?

No. Lirevon includes missed-call text-back and an AI receptionist in one system. We do not run human call centres.

How much does a live answering service cost?

Typically roughly $100 to $500 a month or more, often priced per minute or per call. Plans vary, so get a quote from each provider.

Can an answering service book my estimates?

Some can, if you pay for extra and give them access to your calendar. Many only take a message and pass it on. Ask before you sign.

Do answering service staff know tree work?

Not always. A general service may not know your prices, your service area or what counts as an emergency. Give them a short script and ask to hear sample calls.

Which is better for storm calls?

Storm days bring many calls at once from worried people, so some owners want a human voice for them. A text-back still catches every missed call fast. Using both is common.

How fast does a text-back reach a caller?

About 30 seconds after the missed call. The caller gets a reply even if nobody could talk to them.
