For homeowners
Can a tree service cut down a tree without my permission?
Short answer
No. A tree service should only cut what the property owner agreed to. Get the work in writing before it starts, and if a crew begins cutting something you did not approve, ask them to stop right away and call the company owner.

The longer answer
A tree service works for whoever hired it and should only do the work that was agreed. If a crew starts on a tree you did not approve, tell the crew lead to stop and call the owner of the company.
Problems often start when a neighbor hires a company and the crew crosses the property line, or when a company misreads where the boundary is. If a tree sits near a line, sort out who owns it before the crew arrives.
If a tree was cut without your permission, take photos, write down what happened and keep every message and the quote. Do not argue at the scene. This is general information, not legal advice.
For a serious case, a local lawyer or your local consumer protection office can tell you your options. Your own insurance agent can also tell you what your policy covers.

Hiring a tree service?
Plain guides for homeowners
Safety first: stay away from downed power lines and call the utility; call 911 if anyone is in danger. Lirevon does not do tree work. Find local pros on Google Maps and read their reviews, then get two or three written quotes.
