For homeowners
Do I need to be home when a tree company removes a tree?
Short answer
You do not always have to be home, but it helps to be there at the start and the end of the job. At the start, you can point out exactly which tree to cut. At the end, you can check the work and cleanup before you pay the balance.

The longer answer
Many homeowners wonder if they must take time off work. The answer is often no, but it depends on the job and the company.
Being there at the start is the most useful. You can walk the crew leader to the exact tree or branches. Mix-ups happen more than you would think, especially with several similar trees. A short walk saves a lot of trouble.
Being there at the end matters too. You can check that the work matches the quote, that the cleanup was done, and that nothing is damaged. Do this before you pay the final amount.
If you cannot be home, plan ahead. Send the company clear photos with the tree marked, or put a bright ribbon on it. Make sure the crew has access to the yard, any gates are unlocked, and pets are kept inside. Give a phone number where you can be reached, and ask the crew leader to text you photos when the work is finished.
For a big job with a crane, or a tree close to your house, it is much better to be home or have a trusted adult there. Move cars off the driveway and street near the tree the evening before. Stay clear of the work area while the crew is working.
