For homeowners
Does tree removal include the stump and cleanup?
Short answer
Not always. Many quotes cover cutting the tree down and hauling the debris, while stump grinding is often priced as a separate item. Cleanup details vary too. Ask the company to list stump work, wood, chips, and raking in writing before you agree.

The longer answer
This is one of the most common surprises for homeowners. You hire someone to remove a tree and you end up with a tall stump or a pile of logs. The fix is simple: ask before you agree, and get the answers in the quote.
There are three things to ask about. First is the stump. Some companies cut the tree low and leave the stump, and grinding it is a different job with its own price. Ask if grinding is included, and how deep the grinding goes. A stump ground below the surface can be covered with soil and seed. A stump left in place may sprout or rot slowly.
Second is the wood. Will the crew haul away the logs, leave them cut to length for you to use as firewood, or stack them? Say what you want.
Third is the small stuff. Branches are usually chipped, and the chips may be hauled off or left in a pile. Ask about raking, sawdust, and leaves.
If you want a very clean finish, say so. A line in the quote such as "haul all wood and chips, rake the area" removes confusion. If you plan to plant something where the tree was, tell the company so it grinds deeply enough.
