For homeowners

Is the tree service responsible if a tree falls on my house during the job?

Short answer

A company's insurance is meant to respond if its work damages your property, but the details depend on the policy, the contract and the facts. Take photos, tell the company in writing right away, and tell your own insurer. Ask about this before the job starts.

The longer answer

Before work, ask the company who pays if something goes wrong, and ask for a certificate of insurance. Put the answer in the written estimate.

If damage happens, do these steps. Stay safe and keep people away. Take photos and video of the damage. Tell the company in writing, and ask for its insurer's claim contact. Call your own homeowners insurer too, because they can tell you how to file.

Whether a policy pays depends on its terms. Exclusions can matter, and so can what the contract says. An attorney or your insurer is the right person to ask about your case. Rules differ by state; see /tree-service-license for your state's official sources. This is a short explanation, not legal advice. Check with your state, county and city, and ask your own insurance agent or an attorney about your case.

Hiring a tree service?

Plain guides for homeowners

Safety first: stay away from downed power lines and call the utility; call 911 if anyone is in danger. Lirevon does not do tree work. Find local pros on Google Maps and read their reviews, then get two or three written quotes.
