For tree service owners

What should a written tree service estimate include?

Short answer

A good written estimate names the customer and the address, lists each tree and the work to be done, states what is and is not included (cleanup, hauling, stump work), gives the price and payment terms, and shows your company details and proof of insurance. Clear scope prevents most disputes.

The longer answer

A written estimate is your protection and your sales tool. It shows the homeowner exactly what they are buying and helps them compare quotes fairly.

Start with the basics: your company name, phone, the customer's name and the job address, the date and how long the quote is valid. Then list each tree or task. Describe the tree by type and location, such as the oak at the back left corner, and say what you will do, such as remove, trim or grind.

Next, spell out what is included. Will you haul away the wood and brush? Rake and blow the area? Grind the stump and remove the chips? If something is not included, say so. Many arguments after a job come from a gap between what the owner expected and what the quote said.

Add the total price, any deposit, when payment is due and the payment methods you take. Add notes about access, hazards, power lines or work that needs a permit.

Finish with proof of trust: your insurance details and an easy way to accept, such as a reply or a signature.

Send it fast. A clear quote sent the same day, with a friendly follow-up, wins more work than a perfect one sent a week late.

Our estimate template gives you a starting layout you can edit. It is not legal advice, so have your own terms reviewed.
