For homeowners
Who removes a tree that fell from my neighbor's yard?
Short answer
It depends on the cause and your local rules, and there is no single answer. A tree that falls in a storm onto your land is often dealt with through your own insurance, while a tree that was clearly dead or neglected can raise other questions. Take photos and call your insurance agent. Not legal advice.

The longer answer
This question is common after storms, and the honest answer is that it depends. Rules differ by state, and the facts matter, such as whether the tree was healthy or already dead, and what caused it to fall.
In many cases, when a healthy tree falls in a storm, the owner of the property where it landed deals with the cleanup through their own homeowners insurance. When a tree was clearly dead, rotten, or known to be a problem, the situation can be different, and that is where talking to an insurance agent or a lawyer helps.
Whatever the cause, do these things first. Stay away from the tree and from any power lines. Take photos of the tree, the damage, and the area. Tell your insurance agent as soon as you can. Talk to your neighbor in a calm way, since a friendly talk often solves the problem faster than a fight.
If the tree is blocking a driveway or touching the house, you may need to hire a tree company right away to make things safe. Ask your insurance agent first if you can, and keep all receipts.
For a tree on a boundary or for a long argument, ask a local lawyer or your city office. This is a short explanation, not legal or insurance advice.

Hiring a tree service?
Plain guides for homeowners
Safety first: stay away from downed power lines and call the utility; call 911 if anyone is in danger. Lirevon does not do tree work. Find local pros on Google Maps and read their reviews, then get two or three written quotes.
