Estimates only, built from the numbers entered. Yearly figures assume you keep sending quotes at the same pace all year, which tree work rarely does. Adjust for your slow season.
How the math works
- Close rate = jobs won ÷ quotes sent.
- Sales won = jobs won × average job value.
- Each quote is worth = sales won ÷ quotes sent. This is what one estimate visit brings in, on average.
- Sales in quotes you did not close = (quotes sent − jobs won) × average job value. This is a ceiling, not money you could surely have won.
- One more win per 10 quotes = quotes sent ÷ 10 extra jobs in the period. Yearly = that × average job × (12 ÷ months in the period).
- Extra profit = extra yearly sales × your profit margin. Rough, because extra jobs also add some costs.
- The table = quotes per year × each close rate × average job.
Questions about winning more quotes
What is a good close rate for tree service estimates?
There is no reliable public number for tree companies, and it changes a lot with how you get leads. Referrals and repeat customers often close more easily than cold online leads. The useful number is your own: track it every month and try to beat last month.
How do I count quotes sent?
Count every written or verbal price you gave a customer in the period, whether it was on site, by phone or by text. Do not count leads you never priced. If you gave one customer two options for the same job, count it as one quote.
Should I count quotes in dollars or in number of jobs?
This tool uses the number of quotes, because that is easiest to track. If your jobs vary a lot in size, it also helps to check the dollar close rate now and then: dollars won divided by dollars quoted. Big jobs you lose can hide behind a good count.
What time period should I use?
Use at least one full month, and three months is better. A single week is too noisy. Pick a period where the quotes have had time to close, so leave out quotes sent in the last week or two.
Why is the "revenue not won" number so big?
It is every unclosed quote times your average job. Some of those customers were never going to hire anyone, or chose someone closer or cheaper. Treat it as the ceiling. The "one more win per 10" number is the realistic one to aim at.
How do I win one more job out of every 10 quotes?
The common fixes are simple: answer and reply fast, send the quote the same day, follow up two or three times, make it easy to say yes (a clear written quote and an easy way to book or pay a deposit), and ask for a review after every job so new customers trust you. None of these needs a lower price.
Should I just lower my prices to close more?
Usually not first. A lower price cuts the profit on every job you win, not just the extra ones. Fix speed, follow-up and how the quote looks before you touch price. Use the tree job estimator to check your price still covers your costs.
Does following up on quotes really matter?
Many customers collect two or three quotes and pick whoever is easiest to deal with. If you never follow up, you only win the people who were ready to say yes on day one. A short, polite text after a few days costs you almost nothing.
What does the profit margin input do?
It turns the extra sales into a rough extra profit, so you can see what a better close rate puts in your pocket, not just in sales. Use your own margin from your books. The default is a starting point, change it.
Is anything I type sent to Lirevon?
No. The math runs in your browser. Your numbers are only kept in this browser on this device so the form is filled in next time. Clear your browser data to remove them.
