For tree service owners
Do I need a permit to park a chipper truck or close a street?
Short answer
Often a city or county office controls street parking, lane closures and signs. Some places require a permit or traffic plan for work in the road, and others do not. Call the local public works or permit office before the job, and keep cones and signs on site.

The longer answer
Many tree jobs happen at the curb. Whether you need a permit depends on the city or county. Common questions are: Can the truck park on this street? Can we close a lane or a sidewalk? Do we need signs, cones or a flagger?
Call the local public works or permit office before the day of the job, not on the morning of it.
Your insurer may also want to know what you do near traffic. Keep a short written plan for traffic with each job ticket. Rules differ by state; see /tree-service-license for your state's official sources. This is a short explanation, not legal advice. Check with your state, county and city, and ask your own insurance agent or an attorney about your case.
