What is Certificate of insurance?
Short answer
A certificate of insurance (COI) is a one-page document from your insurance agent that proves what coverage you have and for how long.
Certificate of insurance, explained for tree service owners
Property managers and cities often ask a tree company for a certificate of insurance before work starts. The COI lists your policies, limits and dates, and names who is covered. Your agent can usually issue one quickly, sometimes for free and sometimes for a small fee. Check that it is not expired and that the limits match what the customer asks for. A tree owner who can send a COI in minutes can look more professional to commercial buyers. A COI shows coverage exists, but it does not change the policy. This is a short explanation, not insurance advice.
