What is Crane pick?

Short answer

A crane pick is one lift of a tree section or log by a crane, from the moment it is cut to the moment it is set down.

Crane pick, explained for tree service owners

A crane pick is a single lift made by a crane. On a crane-assisted tree job, a climber attaches a sling to a section, cuts it free, and the crane operator lifts it over the roof and sets it in a landing zone. Each lift is one pick. Crews plan the number and weight of picks before the job, because crane time is billed by the hour and the crane has a safe limit for each reach. Crane work helps with large trees near buildings, with limited access, or with dead trees that are risky to climb. A tree service owner can use the crane job cost calculator to see how many picks a job needs and what it costs.
