What is Review gating?
Short answer
Review gating is showing a review request only to happy customers and steering unhappy ones to a private form. It is against Google's review policy.
Review gating, explained for tree service owners
Review gating means asking only customers who seem happy to leave a public review, and steering unhappy ones to a private feedback form. It is against Google's review policy, and it can lead to reviews being removed. It also hides real feedback that could help you fix problems. For a tree service, the honest path is to ask every customer after a job, with the same simple message, and to reply to all reviews, positive and negative. If a customer is unhappy, call them, fix what you can, and let them decide what to post. Honest, steady reviews build more trust than a perfect score with no context.
