Tree service marketing in Maine

We checked 29 tree companies across 1 Maine metro in October 2026. Most of them lose jobs the same three ways: the call rings out, the lead waits, the review never gets asked for. Here is what the market looks like and what we install to fix it.

What we found in Maine

96% cannot be texted from the website

Of the 23 Maine sites we could load, 96% have no text or chat option. A homeowner who is up a ladder with a cracked limb over the roof wants to text, not fill a form and wait.

91% have no online booking

Almost nobody in the state lets a homeowner pick an estimate slot. The owner who does gets the job while the others are still playing phone tag.

14% have no website at all

14% of Maine tree companies run on a Google listing and a phone number alone. A 5-page site that loads in 2 seconds puts you ahead of them.

37 reviews is the middle of the pack

Half of Maine tree companies have fewer than 37 Google reviews. Asking after every job, by text, is how you pass them.

Local conditions

Working in Maine

Humid continental, with cool summers and long, cold, snowy winters; the coast stays a little milder and foggier.

Storm days are when the phone rings most and gets answered least. The system is built for that day.

Storms
Nor'easters, heavy snow and ice storms, coastal wind storms, and now and then a tropical storm remnant.Season: November to April for snow, ice and nor'easters; August to October for tropical remnants
Trees
White pines, red and sugar maples, balsam firs, spruces, birches, northern white cedars and red oaks.
The work
Winter storm cleanup, logging-style removals on frozen ground, and lot-clearing and pruning from spring to fall.
Rules
Shoreland and wetland rules can limit tree cutting near water in many towns; check the town's rules and the state shoreland rules before quoting.

Licenses and permits

Rules for tree companies in Maine

State license required

Maine requires a state license for at least some tree work.

Short explanation, not legal advice. Rules change, so check with the state and your city before you quote (we last checked on 2026-10-25).

Tree work
Maine law (7 M.R.S. section 2179) says a person may not advertise, consult, solicit, contract or engage for pay in the business of an arborist without an arborist license.
Pesticides
Maine law (22 M.R.S. section 1471-D) says no commercial applicator may use or supervise the use of any pesticide without prior certification by the Board of Pesticides Control, and no spray contracting firm may use any pesticide without prior certification.
Contractor
We did not find a Maine state contractor license that covers tree work.
City and county
Towns and cities may have their own tree ordinances, shoreland zoning rules or right-of-way permits, so check with the town office before cutting near water or the road.

Winter storm cleanup, logging-style removals on frozen ground, and lot-clearing and pruning from spring to fall.

Pruning timing

Late winter, while trees are dormant, is a good time for most pruning. Snow and frozen ground can make access easier for heavy work.

Questions from Maine owners

Do you have an office in Maine?

No. We are a remote team that works US hours; your customers only ever deal with your own number and name. Texts go out from your business number, the booking page carries your name, and you own every account we set up.

How many Maine tree companies do you take?

One per metro. If you are the first in Portland to sign, nobody else in that metro gets the system from us while you are a client.

Where do these numbers come from?

From Google Maps listings for the searches "tree service" and "tree removal" in Maine, pulled in October 2026 (latest pull 26 October 2026), cleaned, and then checked by our own script for a text or chat option and online booking on the home page. They are estimates about the market, not claims about any one company.

What does it cost?

Founding clients: $297 setup and $497 a month for the Core system, no long contract. The full breakdown is on the pricing page.

Do tree companies need a license in Maine?

Maine requires a state license for at least some tree work. Pesticide, contractor and city rules can also apply. The full rules, with links to the official sources, are on our Maine tree service license page. Short explanation, not legal advice.

When is storm season for tree work in Maine?

Nor'easters, heavy snow and ice storms, coastal wind storms, and now and then a tropical storm remnant. The main months are November to April for snow, ice and nor'easters; August to October for tropical remnants. Those are the days your phone rings most, so missed-call text-back and a clear booking page matter most then.

When are Maine tree crews busiest?

Winter storm cleanup, logging-style removals on frozen ground, and lot-clearing and pruning from spring to fall. Plan your marketing and your answering cover a few weeks before each busy stretch starts.

Do you do tree work or send us leads?

No. Lirevon does not do tree work and does not sell or share leads. We install a system on your own number and accounts so you answer, book and follow up on the calls you already get, and ask every customer for a review.
