Trees and pests
State-level lists as of 2026, not a survey of St. Louis; check your state's official pest map. Ask a certified arborist or your county extension office what is active near you. More in tree care in Missouri.
Storm season
Tornadoes and hail are most common from about March to June, with summer thunderstorms after that. Ice storms can bring down limbs from December to February.
After a storm: stay clear of leaning or split trees, call the utility for downed lines and 911 if anyone is in danger. Read what to do after a storm or see live storm warnings.
Permits
We could not confirm a city tree permit rule for St. Louis. Call the city planning or forestry office before removing a large tree, and check your HOA rules.

Tornadoes and hail are most common from about March to June, with summer thunderstorms after that. Ice storms can bring down limbs from December to February. Have large trees near the house checked before the season starts.
The cooler months, from late fall to late winter, are a common time to prune. Oaks are often pruned in the dormant season to lower oak wilt risk. Ask an arborist or your extension office about timing. Ask a certified arborist about your tree.
It depends on the tree size, how close it is to the house or lines, access for equipment, cleanup and stump work. We do not publish prices for tree work. Get two or three written quotes so you can compare.
