For tree service owners
How much should a tree service spend on marketing?
Short answer
There is no one right number. Start from your goals: how many extra jobs you want, your average job value and your close rate. Then set a budget you can afford in your slowest month. Track every lead source and move money toward what produces booked jobs.

The longer answer
Be wary of any rule that gives one percentage for every company. Your town, your season and your crew size all change the answer.
A better way is to work backward. Decide how much new work you want. Divide by your close rate to find how many estimates you need. Then ask how many leads it takes to get those estimates. Now you can see what each lead is allowed to cost and still leave a profit.
Next, protect the basics before you spend on anything new. A clean Google Business Profile, a fast website, and a way to answer or text back every missed call often cost less than ads and fix leaks you already have.
Then pick one or two paid channels at most and give them enough time to learn. Spreading a small budget across five things tells you nothing.
Set a limit you can keep paying even when the phone is quiet. Cash flow in winter matters as much as the spring rush.
Review every month. For each source, count leads, estimates and signed jobs. Cut what does not book work and add to what does.
