For tree service owners
How do I start a tree service business?
Short answer
Start by learning the trade and safe work, then handle the paperwork: a business structure, any licenses your state or city requires, insurance, and a business bank account. Buy only the gear you need, set your prices from real costs, and set up a phone, a Google profile and a way to get reviews.

The longer answer
First, the skills. Tree work is dangerous, and customers hire you to do it right. Work for an established company if you can, and look into training and certifications. Safety is the foundation of everything else.
Second, the business basics. Choose a structure with an accountant or lawyer, get a tax ID if you need one, and open a separate business bank account. Check what licenses or permits your state, county and city require. Rules vary a lot, so look up your own state and ask local offices.
Third, insurance. Talk to an agent who knows tree work. General liability, workers' compensation if you have employees, and cover for vehicles and equipment are the usual topics. Many customers will ask for proof.
Fourth, equipment and money. Start with the essentials and rent the expensive machines until your work justifies buying. Work out your cost per crew hour before you quote anything, so your first jobs are not done at a loss.
Fifth, be findable. Set up a business phone you can answer or text from, claim your Google Business Profile, and ask every customer for a review. A simple fast website helps.
Finally, track your numbers from day one: calls, estimates, jobs won and profit per job.
