For tree service owners

Should a tree service use a call tracking number?

Short answer

Yes, if you run more than one marketing channel and want to know which one makes the phone ring. Use a tracking number on ads or a website, but keep your main number as the primary one on your Google profile so listings stay consistent.

The longer answer

A call tracking number forwards to your real phone and records which source the call came from. It can also keep call logs and recordings, depending on the setup.

It is most useful when you spend money on more than one thing, such as ads and a website, and you want to see which works. If you only get calls from one place, you may not need it.

Be careful with listings. Search engines compare your phone number across the web. Put your main business number as the primary number on your Google Business Profile, and add a tracking number as secondary only if needed. A different number everywhere can look inconsistent.

Use tracking numbers on assets you control, such as paid ad landing pages, direct mail and print. They give a clear count for each source.

Check the rules about call recording. Some states require consent from everyone on the call, so tell callers when a call may be recorded. This is a short explanation, not legal advice.

Choose a plan you can cancel. A tracking number should be one you can port or keep, so you do not lose the line you printed on materials.

Pair it with a simple log of estimates and signed jobs. Calls are not the goal; booked jobs are.
