For homeowners
How do I prepare my yard before a tree crew arrives?
Short answer
Move cars and loose items away from the tree, unlock gates, keep pets and children inside, and mark the tree to be cut. Take photos of the area for your records. Make sure the crew can get equipment close, and be reachable by phone on the day.

The longer answer
A little preparation helps the job go faster and keeps your property safer.
The day before, move vehicles off the driveway and the street near the tree, since limbs can fall and trucks need room. Clear outdoor furniture, grills, toys, planters, and garden art from the area under the tree and along the path the crew will use.
Unlock gates and make sure the crew can reach the work area. Trim back any bushes you want to protect only if the company says it is okay. Tell the crew about hidden things such as sprinkler heads, buried pipes, dog fences, and septic tanks, since heavy equipment can damage them.
Take dated photos of your lawn, fence, house, and driveway. It takes five minutes and helps if there is a question later.
On the day, keep children and pets inside. Stay out of the work zone, and do not try to help by pulling or cutting. If you have neighbors close by, let them know a crew will be working and that it will be noisy.
Before the crew leaves, walk the yard with the leader. Check that the cleanup matches the quote, and ask any questions. Pay the final amount only when you are happy.
