What is Chlorosis?
Short answer
Chlorosis is the yellowing of leaves caused by too little chlorophyll, often from a nutrient or soil problem.
Chlorosis, explained for tree service owners
Chlorosis means leaves are pale green or yellow because they lack enough chlorophyll, the green pigment. Veins often stay green while the space between them turns yellow. Common causes include low iron or other nutrients, soil that is too alkaline, poor drainage, compacted soil or root damage. For a tree service owner, chlorosis is a good example of a problem you should not guess about. Yellow leaves can also come from drought, overwatering or pests. Suggest a soil test or a visit from a local extension office or arborist before any treatment. Honest advice builds trust, and it may lead to a plant health care service you can offer after the cause is clear.
