What is Climbing line?

Short answer

A climbing line is the main rope a tree climber uses to go up, move around and hang from in the tree.

Climbing line, explained for tree service owners

A climbing line is the strong rope that holds a climber while they work in a tree. It is thrown over a high, solid branch, and the climber ties in and uses it to go up, move across the canopy and come back down. It is chosen for strength, softness in the hand and how well it handles friction. Climbers check it before each job for cuts, wear or chemicals, and retire it when it looks worn. The line is a life-safety tool, so companies keep a log and replace it on a schedule. A tree service owner may include this gear in an insurance review, since good equipment records can show careful habits.
