What is Voicemail drop-off?
Short answer
Voicemail drop-off is when a caller reaches voicemail and hangs up without leaving a message, which means the business loses the lead without knowing who called.
Voicemail drop-off, explained for tree service owners
Most callers do not leave a voicemail. Invoca reports that about 27% of calls to home-service businesses go unanswered and under 3% of those callers leave a voicemail. For a tree service, that means a missed call is usually a lost lead. The caller simply tries another company. You can reduce drop-off by answering faster, forwarding calls, or sending an instant text after a missed call. A clear voicemail greeting also helps, but the quickest fix is to reach the customer first with a reply.
