What is Upsell?

Short answer

Upsell is offering a customer an extra or higher-value service that fits their need, such as stump grinding or a follow-up trim, during the same visit or quote.

Upsell, explained for tree service owners

An upsell is an add-on you offer because it truly helps the customer, such as stump grinding after a removal, cabling for a weak limb, or a yearly trim plan. For a tree service, upsells can raise the value of each job without finding a new lead. The rule is honesty: only suggest work the tree really needs, and explain the reason in plain words. Show the price separately in the proposal so the customer can choose. Pushing unneeded work damages trust and reviews. Track which add-ons customers accept, so you know what is worth offering in future quotes.
