What is bounce rate?

Short answer

Bounce rate is the share of visits where a person lands on one page and leaves without doing anything else.

bounce rate, explained for tree service owners

A bounce means someone came to one page and left. High bounce rates are not always bad. If a visitor lands on your page, finds your phone number and calls, that may count as a bounce, yet it is a win. It becomes a problem when people leave because the page is slow, confusing or not what they searched for. Look at bounce rate together with calls and form fills, not alone. Compare pages: if one service page loses visitors much faster than the others, check its speed, headline and call to action. Use it as a hint about where to look, not as a grade.
