What is sitemap?

Short answer

A sitemap is a file that lists the pages of your website so search engines can find and read all of them.

sitemap, explained for tree service owners

Think of a sitemap as a table of contents for your website. It is usually a file called sitemap.xml that lists every page you want search engines to know about. It helps most when your site is new, has few outside links or has many pages. A tree service site with pages for each service and town benefits from one. Good website builders create it automatically. You can send it to Google through Google Search Console, which then shows whether each page was found and read. Keep it clean: list only real pages that you want people to find, and remove old or deleted ones.
